Heart Murmur
“The mouth obeys poorly when the heart murmurs” – Voltaire
The heart murmur is the sound produced when the heart pumps the blood through its valves. The heart murmur is usually heard from the stethoscope.
Heart murmur with an increase in intensity is not a good sign. A progressive increase can be studied to determine the cause and the solution to the cause. If the heart murmur does not have a progressive decrease after a progressive increase then this would mean a troubled heart in the human body. Usually, the rise and decrease of the heart murmur are noted as crescendo and decrescendo. The decrease in intensity also does not mean a good thing as there are bare minimums with which heart is considered as healthy.
Heart murmur intensity is the loudness of the heart murmur. The heart murmur from a normal human can be heard only via the stethoscope. A heart murmur is measured on the Levin scale. Heart murmur ranges from 1 to 6 on Levin scale. A loud murmur can be 3 to 4 on Levin scale and can be heard with the rim of the stethoscope touching the chest.
Apart from the intensity, there is pitch and quality to the heart murmur which also has importance. A pitch may be low, medium or high and the pitch can be determined using the stethoscope.
The timing of the heart murmur depends on whether the ventricles shrink or ventricles relax. A ventricle is the hollow part of the heart. There are two main chambers of the heart the right heart and the left heart.

Not all the parts of the heart have the clear heart murmur. There are various spots where the heart murmur is more audible than other places. The best locations to hear the heart murmur are an Aortic region, pulmonic region, Tricuspid region and Mitral region. Aortic region corresponds to Aorta which is the main artery in the human body.
Pathologic heart murmur is the one which really raises concerns in the medical fields. A heart disease is usually the end result of the pathologic heart murmur. In conditions like valve narrowing, doctors prescribe medicines which increase the heart strength and remove the blockage in the heart valve. Hype active inhalation of air increases the pressure on the heart and leads to the pulmonary circulation. This results in the heart murmurs originating from the right heart.
Not all the unusual heart murmurs are associated with the heart diseases. Some unusual increase in the heart murmur can be because of pregnancy or due to high fever. There are instances which result in the high-intensity murmurs not due to the physical aspect but due to physiological aspects. The circumstances around a person are responsible for the increase in the murmur intensity. In such cases, the murmur intensity is called the functional murmur. Often heart murmurs are very soft in the cases of infants or children.
The best musical cardiac murmur is called the cooling dove and many a time felt when you are on a holiday and enjoying life in every moment.
